About the course

The Effective Manager Development Course is designed to enhance your skills and knowledge of HR, employment law and people management. This course will give you valuable theoretical and practical knowledge you will immediately be able to take away and implement.

The course is split into four modules to cover essential people management skills.

Course Breakdown

Module 1: Recruitment and Onboarding

  • Adverts, job descriptions, establishing a fair process and selection.
  • Employment status, contractual terms and other legal requirements.
  • Induction and probation process.

Learning outcomes:

  • Develop knowledge of the costs and consequences of poor recruitment, selection and onboarding.
  • Understand the key legal and HR considerations during each stage of recruitment, selection and onboarding.
  • Gain an overview of relevant ‘must know’ employment law which applies to recruitment, selection and onboarding.

Module 2: Employee Development, Growth and Retention

  • Employee development, performance management and appraisals.
  • Equality, Diversity and Inclusion (including discrimination) in a thriving culture.
  • Must Know legal frameworks including working hours, holiday, family friendly and other statutory rights.

Learning outcomes:

  • Develop knowledge of how to develop, grow and retain employees.
  • Understand the key legal and HR considerations for creating a culture where employees want to stay and thrive.
  • Understand the equality legislation and how to handle these situations.

Module 3: Employee Management

  • Disciplinary and Grievances.
  • Workplace investigations.
  • Sickness and other absence management.

Learning outcomes:

  • Develop a sound working knowledge of the practical and legal requirement for disciplinary and grievances.
  • Understand how to undertake a robust, fair and reasonable workplace investigation.
  • Enhance consideration of sickness absence management and wellbeing.

Module 4: Ending employment and other post-employment considerations.

  • Dismissal, constructive dismissal, redundancy and ill health.
  • Post Termination Restrictions.
  • Settlement Agreements.

Learning outcomes:

  • Develop a sound working knowledge of the practical and legal implications of ending employment.
  • Understand how to manage the risks and consequences of dismissals.
  • Develop strategies to ensure that ending employment is well managed from a reputational and legal risk perspective.
