Gemma is an experienced HR professional with over 20 years’ expertise in human resources, people management, and employee relations. A Business Studies graduate from the University of Glamorgan, she also holds an ILM Level 7 Certificate in Executive Coaching and Mentoring, supporting her work in leadership development and business coaching.

Gemma joined Effective HRM in 2011, bringing with her extensive experience from both in-house HR roles and HR consultancy. Earlier in her career, she worked alongside employment lawyers in a leading law firm, providing commercially focused HR advice to clients on a wide range of workplace issues. She also spent eight years as an HR Manager with Asda, supporting multiple large-scale retail operations of up to 800 employees. This role gave her hands-on experience across disciplinaries, grievances, absence management, performance management, and employee wellbeing.

As Regional Manager for Wales and the West of England, Gemma works closely with SME business owners, providing practical HR support, strategic advice, and mentoring. She specialises in helping businesses navigate complex people challenges, improve employee engagement, and implement effective HR processes that drive productivity and reduce risk.

Known for her approachable style and strong commercial awareness, Gemma delivers straightforward, solutions-focused HR advice that aligns with business objectives. Her ability to build strong relationships and quickly understand organisational needs makes her a trusted partner to clients across a wide range of sectors.

Often described as Effective HRM’s “Chief Happiness Officer”, Gemma is passionate about creating positive workplace cultures and supporting both clients and colleagues to succeed. She is a natural coach and mentor, committed to developing people and helping businesses achieve sustainable growth.

Outside of work, Gemma enjoys spending time with her family and making the most of opportunities to relax and recharge – ideally somewhere sunny.
